    Directions

arkonosze (Giant Mountains) – Lower Silesia Region:

The Karkonosze is the highest mountain range of the Sudetes in southwestern Poland. The mountains form a natural border with the Czech Republic. The two most popular spots are Śnieżka and Szrenica, which both tower over the main tourist centers of Karpacz and Szklarska Poręba. The Karkonosze is known for its many waterfalls, the two most popular of which are Kamieńczyk Waterfall and Szklarki Waterfall. The Śnieżka is the highest peak in the Karkonosze with a height of 1,602 meters above sea level. From the top there is a beautiful panorama of the Karkonosze mountain range. It is also the place where you can witness rare natural phenomena such as the Brocken spirit and the St. Elm’s fire.

Are you going to Giant Mountains? Visit Wang Temple – one of the biggest attractions in Karpacz. Next to the wooden church from the 13th century we find the blue tourist route. It first leads to Mały Staw cirque, where the Samotnia mountain hut is located. For those who don’t want to climb at all, a chairlift is available that takes you to the Kopa and from there we can proceed on foot to the top. Regardless of which route we choose to the top, beautiful views await us, which will remain in our memory for a long time to come.

    KARPACZ:

Karpacz is a charming tourist town at the foot of the Giant Mountains and their highest peak – Śnieżka (1602 m above sea level). The city offers perfect conditions to spend leisure time. Karpacz is a place where a wide range of activities await visitors all year round, regardless of the weather.

Thanks to its captivating charm, vastness and location on the highest mountain of the western Sudetes – the Śnieżka, Karpacz is the best base in the Karkonosze. The high mountain character of these mountains, characterized by cirques such as the Kocioł Wielki and Mały Staw, makes the whole region picturesquely beautiful and therefore extremely attractive. Regardless of the time of year, it is worth visiting Karpacz and the Karkonosze. In winter Karpacz is an ideal place for winter sports while in summer it is an excellent place for mountain walks.

Before exploring the Giant Mountains, learn more about their legendary ruler, the Mountain Spirit. A modern interactive exhibition, Secrets of the Giant Mountains (Karkonoskie Tajemnice), is located in the city center. The collection contains all the details of the Giant Mountains (including the skeleton of the Mountain Spirit). All sports enthusiasts and those who want to learn more about the history of the region should pay a visit to the Museum of Sports and Tourism. We invite all ski jumping fans to see the Ski Jump ‚Orlinek’. Nowadays it is a center of extreme sports in the summer where you can try bungee jumping, for example. The ski jumping hill is also a great vantage point.

Wang Church, a unique Scandinavian sacred building made of wood and decorated in the same way as Viking ships, is one of the best-known and most valuable tourist attractions of Karpacz. This church was originally built in the 12th or 13th century in the Norwegian town of Vang. In the 19th century they wanted to tear down the church because it was dilapidated and too small. Frederick William IV bought the church for 427 marks and planned to place it in Berlin. That didn’t happen… Eventually the church was brought to Karpacz in parts and it took 2 years for it to be reassembled and refurbished.

A visit to the Toy Museum, which presents a 200-year-old legacy of the toy industry, will be a valuable experience not only for children, but also for their parents.

After visiting the city center, it is a good idea to cool down and take a walk to Wild Waterfall (Dziki Wodospad), Dam on the Łomnica River or Raven Rocks which are shrouded in legend. Hiking enthusiasts can indulge themselves during a walk through the Giant Mountains. There are 90 kilometers of signposted tourist routes in Karpacz, allowing you to discover one of the most valuable natural areas in Poland. Four mountain huts can be found along tourist trails that provide food and shelter to tired hikers: “Dom Śląski”, “Samotnia”, “Strzecha Akademicka” and “Nad Łomniczką”. The fastest way to reach the top of the Śnieżka is by cable car. Besides the top of the Karkonosze, it is wonderful to visit the cirques and the rock formations Pielgrzymy and Słonecznik.

Winter sports enthusiasts have a number of slopes and lifts available. There are also trails for cross-country skiing and ski touring. Kids and those craving more excitement can take advantage of ice rinks and snow tubing tracks.
