Description RV park
This campsite is located on the peaks of the island, surrounded by a fresh pine forest. It is located on the access road from Los Pechos on a plain at almost 1800 m. It is a reduced camping area without service points etc. and has excellent views of the north of the island. You can use a tent or a camper van here, but ONLY with prior permission! You can apply for this on the website provided! The campsite is managed by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria!
Where does the water come from?
If you decide to camp in this place, you should know that you are at almost 1,800 meters above sea level, in a protected natural area, the Las Cumbres Landscape Protection Area and the Gran Canaria Biosphere Reserve. This protected space plays a fundamental role in the entire life of the island, since its northern orientation and its altitude are of key importance for the accumulation of water by condensation in the forest areas and its subsequent precipitation towards the ground, recharging the island's aquifer. In addition, most of the headwaters of the main gorges in the northeast of the island flow here, where there are dams in the lower reaches. There are currently a total of 168 dams and a large number of reservoirs on the 1,500 km² area of Gran Canaria. 69 of the dams belong to the group of “large dams”, a name reserved only for hydraulic structures designed to retain water from ravines with a height of more than 15 metres or a capacity of more than 100,000 m³.
