When you think of tulips in Holland, Keukenhof probably comes to mind. Located between Amsterdam and Lisse, the farm is a sea of flowers - and has been for over 100 years. Various themed gardens can be admired on around 32 hectares - and let your gaze wander over a sea of flowers that is as colorful as it is vast. Millions of early bloomers make the world of color here explode in spring. The park is usually open from mid/late March to early May - in 2020 from March 21st to May 10th. The closest motorhome parking space to Keukenhof is the “Camperplaats “Het Groene Hart” – here you can park your camper at the “green heart”, as the name so beautifully says. A little tip: To avoid long waiting times at the Keukenhof ticket offices, it is recommended to buy your tickets in advance. This can be done conveniently online from home. The price is around 17 euros per person. Garden lovers and strollers will experience an unforgettable day strolling through the tulip fields.
The Bollenstreek – the flower bulb line runs through half of Holland
Have you ever heard of the flower parade on Bollenstreek? This runs from Noordwijk to Haarlem and takes place in mid-April. Like a colorful carnival procession, decorated floats travel a distance of 40 kilometers to show off the entire floral splendor. Music bands create a great atmosphere. Thousands of Dutch people and tourists stand enthusiastically on the side of the road, marveling, applauding, swaying and swaying along. If you have your pitch on the “Camperplaats Het Groene Hart”, you are very close to Nordwijk to marvel at the flower parade.
Did you know that the tulip originally comes from Turkey?
Many hundred years ago it came to Holland via a detour and its appearance has now been changed through a variety of breeding methods. The flowers in the tulip bulb fields are not actually intended as cut flowers: there are countless greenhouses available for this purpose. The best time to visit is mid-April, when the fields are in full bloom. On the Bollenstreek and also in Flevoland you will find countless red, white, yellow or purple fields that shine in the spring sun. The cultivated areas often take on a multicolored striped appearance. The “Marina Muiderzand” parking space is in Flevoland. From here you can not only marvel at the tulip fields, but also visit the cities of Almere and Lelystad. The best way to start from the parking space is by bike. The landscape is wide and flat. The signage is almost perfect, and many cycle paths run separately from the roads directly through meadows, fields and along dikes.

From the tulip market to the cheese market – the flower fields around Alkmaar in North Holland
In the old trading town of Alkmaar, about 30 kilometers north of Amsterdam, you can not only take canal cruises and marvel at a historic windmill. There is also a beer museum and the cheese market in Rudi Carrell's hometown, which has been taking place here for over 600 years. On Friday mornings (from the end of March to the end of September, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) there is an appearance by the proud guild of cheese carriers. They transport the huge wheels of cheese in their traditional wooden carriers. Against a historical backdrop, introduced by a chime, the spectacle captivates visitors. The cheese market tradition is explained to visitors in several languages, including German.
From Alkmaar to the wide sandy beaches of North Holland in just a few minutes
Not far from Alkmaar are the popular seaside resorts of Bergen and Egmond aan Zee, at the foot of long, towering chains of dunes. In Egmont you will find the small motorhome parking space “Egmondse Doelen 2” . It inspires with a personal atmosphere in the middle of nature. If you are self-sufficient, this motorhome parking space is recommended. It is an oasis of calm. Electricity, fresh water and gray water drainage are available, but no sanitary facilities. Hobby gardeners know that the flower bulbs for flowering in spring are planted in autumn. That's why it's best to come back to Holland in your motorhome in August or September to choose the bulbs of your favorite tulips from the thousands of varieties. Flower and flower bulb markets are as much a part of Holland as cheese, windmills or wooden shoes. You can find the most famous Dutch flower market in Amsterdam, on the Singel Canal. The floating market is unique. The various stands are set up on boats that are moored in the canals. The tradition of the flower market goes back hundreds of years. In the past, the flowers were brought into the city via the canals and canals.

Then we recommend two parking spaces from which you can easily reach the canal metropolis by bike. “Amsterdam City Camp” is quite centrally located – there is even a free boat connection to the city center. The modern motorhome parking space in Amsterdam has space for 50 motorhomes and is open all year round. No reservations are possible. But it's definitely worth a try. Our second tip: “Camper Overnachtingsplaat Amsterdam” This parking space is a little outside the city limits. However, you can easily reach the Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank House and many other sights by bike or public transport. After visiting the flower market in the canals, you'll probably be drawn back out into the fields towards the North Sea to take another deep breath of the fresh sea air.
