The first test weekend with the Globe 4 from Dethleffs

The first test weekend with the Globe 4 from Dethleffs - stellplatz.info

Oh how excited I was when I was allowed to drive the first few meters with this monster. But we got through the weekend well and, above all, comfortably. The motorhome is really great with a few small peculiarities, but they are hardly significant.

A great driving experience

As the owner of a 90 hp turbo diesel, I know what it means to not always be able to accelerate. That's why I was prepared for a comfortable ride. But I was wrong! Thanks to the extensive motorization based on a Fiat engine, the Globe 4 went quickly and quickly to Vorarlberg (approx. 380 km) and then back over the Thurn Pass (approx. 430 km). The chassis is fantastic and proved to be solid on all roads driven. We were able to test the vehicle on country roads, highways, mountain roads and access roads. Of course, the dimensions of the motorhome take some getting used to. The width in particular gave me problems at the first motorway construction sites with narrow passages. Thanks to the additional lower side mirrors, which always showed me the distance to the edge of the road, I quickly got a feel for the dimensions of the vehicle. The 6-speed gearbox was easy to use and the steering was also extremely precise. There were no other notable incidents during the journey, apart from the small annoyance that there was no proper cup holder in the cab.

The almost perfect interior

Since we were visiting relatives and weren't distracted by anything on offer at a campsite, I was able to concentrate entirely on the comfort and functionality of the interior. Everything was tested in detail, except for the cooking option. I want to start with the entrance area. The extendable stairs are very practical here, but not suitable as a shoe rack. If you don't want to enter the interior with your street shoes, you have to take your shoes off and leave them outside or store them in the interior. A fold-out shoe rack next to the entrance door would be practical here. The fittings on the left side in the entrance area are very helpful. The displays for electricity and (waste) water in particular provide important information. At first I wasn't sure if the water indicator was working because I thought I had filled up enough water. But with a capacity of over 100 liters, you can sometimes lose track. The seating area is very comfortable and offers enough space, although usage this weekend was manageable. Likewise, the drop-down bed above the seating area was lowered and raised again just for show purposes, and everything went smoothly. Things got interesting during the first evening ventilation. All four of the four roof windows open using a different system, while the side windows still have three different systems installed. I couldn't understand why the whole thing was like this. This peculiarity does not mean a major loss in comfort, even if it is surprising at first. In the kitchen, the shelves are installed extremely intelligently and offer space for extensive equipment. Since the stove remained cold, I went straight to the refrigerator. This was run on gas over the weekend and worked perfectly. Likewise the freezer compartment, which I would have liked to have turned off since it wasn't in use. Unfortunately this option does not exist. Opposite is the “bathroom”. This was used for both cold (because I forgot to turn on the boiler) and hot (this time the boiler was turned on half an hour before) showers. Despite the limited space in the bathroom, it was easy to move around. The chemical toilet was also in use. The space here is really very limited and due to the small toilet cassette, it cannot be seen as a “main toilet”, but rather as a replacement for external sanitary facilities. Finally, a statement about the rear sleeping area. The mattress is really comfortable and so was the sleep. The skylight actually gave us a view of the stars and, thanks to the fly screens (which are attached to every window), we also had a quiet night with a good supply of fresh air. Just opening and closing the window sometimes requires an effort. I would have liked to have found storage space on both sides of the bed, as well as a light switch in front of the sleeping area. I don't want to say much about the outside area. The space in the “garage” is enormous, the connections are easy to use and the motorhome is beautiful anyway!

Conclusion

What can you say about this motorhome other than that it is a true holiday living space. Thanks to the materials and colors used, it quickly offers a “feeling of home” and contains everything you need for life. The small defects do not mean any loss of comfort. There is great anticipation for the next trip, which will be a real vacation. We will report again!
