Our companion is here: The first impression of the Dethleffs Globe 4 motorhome - stellplatz.info

Finally the time has come. After months of waiting, it's just around the corner: the Camping.Info/Stellplatz.Info motorhome. A companion for our future trips throughout Europe. We will test pitches, campsites and, last but not least, the motorhome itself and report back.

The first impression of the Dethleffs Globe 4 was mixed. It's big, very big and as a motorhome newbie it was a bit formidable. But the size also has good sides and they are quite something. The garage was the first point of the demonstration and was impressive in size. There should be enough space for up to 4 bikes or a motor scooter and even more with the built-in cupboards. We continued with various connections and containers. Everything seems very solid and actually self-explanatory. A 90 liter diesel tank supplies the approx. 180 hp Fiat engine, as well as a standard toilet cassette, a connection for the approx. 120 liter fresh water tank, two gas cartridges of 11 kg each and a charging station for the 95 Ah living room battery. When you take a second look at the motorhome, which is built on a Fiat Ducato chassis, your respect has already given way to anticipation of the interior work.

Dethleff's fittings

Entry into the living room was initiated by an extendable step, which already gave an idea of the comfort inside. The next eye-catcher followed with the elegant displays for water and battery levels as well as the time on the left side in the entrance area. The seating area towards the driver's compartment is spacious. Six people can easily sit together here. Since the Globe 4 is only approved for four people, they probably thought of the neighbors at the campsite, who you can easily invite to a game evening. The light wood used throughout the interior and the LED lighting create a friendly atmosphere. The fold-down bed is installed directly above the seating area. This can be folded down in surprisingly few steps and offers two sleeping options. On the way to the additional sleeping accommodations at the end of the motorhome you pass the kitchen. Three covered gas stoves, a sink right next to it and a large refrigerator with a freezer compartment offer space to cook properly. Directly opposite is the wet room and here the first thought was: “What? No shower?”. But thought wrong. The sink is located on a hinged wall, which forms the partition to the toilet in “shower mode”. This means you can conjure up a shower out of nothing in just a few simple steps. The experienced motorhome enthusiast might laugh now, but for me this ingenious functionality of the interior design was a real experience.

Past further boxes and storage options you go to the very high double bed. This can be easily “climbed” via an extendable staircase. When you try it out for the first time, you notice the window in the ceiling. When opened, a fly screen is immediately retracted, which promises a quiet night under the stars. The mattress also gives hope for a good night's sleep. The only negative point in the interior is the small distance between the bed and the ceiling. This is due to the spacious garage and is not helped by additional boxes above the bed. Nevertheless, there are no doubts when leaving the motorhome, the vacation with this vehicle will be great.

The first detailed driving test is scheduled for the weekend. We are excited and will let you know how things went for us. Then also with details about the driver's cab, driving behavior and operation.
