Vicinity
The immediate surroundings of the campsite are beautiful. There are various natural parks nearby that you can visit. You can use the cycle hubs to signpost many routes and to explore the surrounding area: see cycle network for routes.
Hijkerveld
The Hijkerveld is a vast area of forest and heath about 4 kilometers away by bike. There is a large flock of Schoonebeker sheep here that live in a sheep cage at night. The ANWB cycle route Beilerdingspelroute also runs through this area.
Drents-Friese Wold
The Drents-Friese Wold is approximately 7 kilometers away. It is a very extensive area where you can cycle or walk for many kilometers.
Dwin Gelderveld National Park
The Dwin Gelderveld National Park is approximately 10 kilometers away. The park has rich flora and fauna. There is a large heath field, a sheep pen and an information center. There is also a lot going on for young people here and there are beautiful children's routes. There is also the Planetron, which is worth visiting.
Fochteloërveen
The Fochteloërveen is also easy to reach by bike. It is one of the largest raised bog swamps in the Netherlands. Peat mining can still be seen in many places here.

Drive on the A28, then take the Beilen exit, exit number 30.
From Assen at the end of the exit, take the third exit at the roundabout towards Smilde.
You then drive along the Beilervaart (canal). Then cross the third bridge to the right and directly left towards Hijken. The third farm on the left is the Vorrelveen campsite.
From Hoogeveen, turn left at the end of the exit and take the second exit at the roundabout. Then follow the path along the Beilervaart as described above.
If you are coming from Hoogersmilde, then drive in the middle of the village over the bridge over the Drentse Hoofdvaart (canal), to the right and then to the left. You then drive via the Beilerfahrt towards Beilen. You turn left over the second bridge and then immediately left towards Hijken.
The third farm on the left is Camping Vorrelveen.
