To make your motorhome holiday in Tyrol perfect: Austria requires a toll sticker for motorhomes up to 3.5 tons (except on the toll-free section of the A12 from Kufstein to Kufstein-Süd). Vehicles over 3.5 tons require a GO-Box. The best time to travel is May to September for summer camping, and December to April for winter sports. Most campsites are open year-round and offer winter camping with heated restrooms. Spring and fall are ideal for relaxed travel with less hustle and bustle.
Average costs: From basic pitches starting at €25 to premium pitches at €60 per night, averaging €43 per night.
Tyrol offers 83 motorhome pitches on stellplatz.info – perfectly distributed from Innsbruck to the Zillertal! The highest pitch density can be found in the Alps (127 pitches), the Tyrolean lowlands (31 pitches), and the Tyrolean highlands (16 pitches).
Motorhomes up to 3.5 tons are required to pay a toll sticker on all Austrian motorways. Exception: The A12 Inntal Autobahn section from Kufstein to Kufstein-Süd is toll-free. Motorhomes over 3.5 tons require a GO-Box instead of a toll sticker.
Prices range from basic pitches starting at €25 to premium pitches at €60 per night . Alpine wellness pitches cost €40-60, and basic farm pitches cost €25-35. Many pitches offer seasonal discounts outside of peak times.
Summer (May-September) : Hiking, mountain tours, and swimming in the lakes at a pleasant 20-25°C. Winter (December-April) : Skiing, winter hiking, and wellness. Spring and fall are ideal for relaxed tours away from the hustle and bustle.
Tyrol is perfect for winter camping : 24 pitches are open during the winter, with heated sanitary facilities, electricity hookups, and often close to the ski lifts. Six pitches are even located right next to the ski lift!
Tyrol is very dog-friendly : 48 campsites allow dogs, many offer dog showers, exercise areas, and marked hiking trails. On farms, dogs are often allowed to run freely in the meadows.
Relax after an active day in the mountains: 18 pitches offer saunas, many also offer steam baths, whirlpools, and massages. Panoramic saunas with Alpine views are especially popular!
Currently, environmental zones in Austria only apply to trucks , not to motorhomes or cars. On the Inntal Autobahn (A12), there are driving bans for trucks with emissions below Euro 6; motorhomes are not affected.
